Tunnel Springs was a great location for Amy’s bridals. I had never been there before, but a local photographer said that Tunnel Springs was looking still really pretty that week. It is a cool little park that sits on the top on the mountain in North Salt Lake and holds part of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Sometimes it’s hard to choose locations in the fall until a few days before because the colors can change so quickly. One week the colors are gorgeous and a few days later not so much. I was so happy she referred me to Tunnel Springs though because the colors were perfect that night and so different from a lot of the other places I have shot before. I’m a sucker for some good green trees, but this was a nice change with the beautiful open field with a single large colorful tree. I really enjoyed shooting there!
Amy’s mom and sister (and later Mikey’s mom) came with them to the shoot and they were so helpful fixing the dress and the holding flowers. It is always so helpful having another set on hands and eyes around. Amy’s mom mentioned multiple how much she loved the location and how it was so different from where they have taken many family pictures before. She said they always go to Logan canyon for their family pictures and this was a nice new look for photos. It’s funny because we almost did Ogden canyon, but weren’t going to have enough lighting because Mikey couldn’t get off work early enough. But clearly, it worked out because we all were very pleased with the location we ended up choosing.
It had been pretty cold the week before but the weather ended up being so great the day of the shoot. We had warm weather and clear blue skies! It had actually snowed in the canyon the week prior when it was so cold! Utah and Idaho weather always makes me laugh at how extreme it can be.
Mikey the groom was my roommate my second year at Utah State. He moved in in January for the second half of the school year after one of my roommates moved out. Although I didn’t get to spend a ton of time with him, it was always clear how great of a guy Mikey was. It was great seeing him again and catching up since it had been almost 7 years since we had spent time together. This was also the year I meet my best friend, Andy who was also our roommate. If you want, you can check out the cool photos from our friend trip to Yellowstone that Andy and I just took here. Clearly that year of school was great and I had some fantastic roommates. It was also great getting to meet and spend time with Amy. She is such a cool girl and they were clearly a perfect match for one another.
Mix of film and digital images. All film images were shot on a Pentax 645n medium format film camera with Kodak Portra 400 film and developed at The FIND Lab.
